Our First Anniversary

On August 29th, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary :) We started our celebration on Friday with the year-old frozen (well, thawed) cake topper, pictured above. Everyone says it's always really gross and doesn't taste the way it did a year ago, etc. Well, we actually had a really good cake topper experience! The only part that was a little off was the VERY outer layer of frosting, but the cake was moist, the raspberry filling tasted good, and the inside of the frosting was soft! I was a little weirded out about it being a year old, but Chris went to town on it! :)On Saturday morning we left for Cleveland, Ohio. Why Cleveland, you may ask...it's not exactly the most romantic place in the midwest. Well, the traditional "first year" wedding anniversary gift is paper...so we decided to buy Cleveland Indians tickets (Chris is a huge fan) and spend the weekend there. Contrary to what some girls would think, I was really excited about it! I like baseball games and mini vacations, so it worked out quite nicely for me :) So anyways, we got to Cleveland on Saturday afternoon, checked into our hotel, and got dinner at a place called Panini's. Their sandwiches all come with cole slaw and french fries on them unless otherwise specified. I just went with the french fries on a tuna sandwich, Chris got the roast beef with everything, and let me tell you: these were the biggest sandwiches I've ever seen! I seriously had enough leftovers on my plate after eating the sandwich itself to make an entire other sandwich or two! But so delicious! Then we headed to the Saturday night game with tickets that we got from a guy off craigslist...first row in the outfield. They were great seats, and the winning (Indians) homerun (in the 10th inning) was hit right by us! We watched highlights and you can see us, but only if you know what we're wearing and exactly where we're sitting haha. After the game we went out for a celebratory drink at a trendy outdoor bar. I had a blueberry drink that was recommended by the waiter...so good! Day one of anniversary weekend was a success! :)

At 4am in the middle of Saturday night, there's a knock on our door. I'm thinking groggily to myself that it must be some drunk guy. Chris isn't getting out of bed to open the door, so I go to the door and look out the peep hole...only to find that the reason Chris wasn't getting out of bed to open the door was because Chris was the one knocking. He's out in the hall in only his boxers (at least he had SOME clothes on!)...for a reason that is still unknown to either of us. When we fell asleep we had the movie "Ghost" on TV, so Chris tells me that he was sleepwalking (only the second time it's happened in our whole dating history) and that in his head he "knew" he could just walk through the door, but he thought it would just be easier to knock. Ha, there's a unique little memory from our first anniversary :)

Sunday morning we slept in and took our time getting around...Chris went down and got us breakfast just before they put everything away...what a lifesaver! Then we walked down towards the stadium and Chris bought his Indians jersey (he had gotten me one a few weeks ago on super sale...my kind of man!). Once we were both dressed in game-garb, we headed to a fun bar & grill across from the stadium called the Thirsty Parrot...kind of a Jimmy Buffet feel. We hung out there for a bit before heading over to find our amazing seats behind home plate!
We were in the first row again, which were padded seats and had their own waiter! We got the tickets for really cheap on StubHub the night before, and each ticket was loaded with $5 to use towards concessions! Our waiter even got us free tickets to go up to the Varsity Club where there's a bar and restaurant with a wall of glass that you can see the field from...that was pretty cool too. The Indians lost on Sunday, but we had fun anyways!

Sunday night we went to our anniversary dinner at a place called Mallorca, a Spanish/Portuguese restaurant. The food was really good and we got a pitcher of sangria to go along with it...also really good! It was fun to get dressed up and go out on the town...plus our waiter was hilarious and reminded us of the butler from Mr. Deeds who says "you underestimate my sneakiness" haha...very funny.

On Monday we got up and headed a little north and out of our way and went to Marblehead, OH. There's a really pretty lighthouse there that Chris knew about, so we had lunch there. We also had gotten dessert the night before at Mallorca but didn't have room for it, so we sat on a rock next to Lake Erie and ate our dessert first :) We did a little antiquing (dorky I know, but we're an old married couple now, right?), then headed back to Indy.

We had so much fun on our long weekend, and we are so blessed to have had such an amazing first year together. It has flown by in some ways, and seems like forever ago in others, but all that matters is that we made it through one year and can't wait to see where our next anniversary takes us! Thanks to all our wonderful family and friends who have been so supportive through our marriage so far...we love sharing our life with you!
